Foundation Community Club signs up for Beacon
The Beacon of Light has made its first sports signing, with Foundation of Light's Community Club moving into the state-of-the-art facility from the 2018-19 season. A FA Charter Standard Community Club, the FCC will become the Beacon's first Grassroots Football Partner utilising the venue's world-class roof-top football barn and outdoor pitches for training sessions and Russell Football Youth League matches. Part of the Foundation of Light's Player Pathway, the FCC provides children and young people aged under 7 to under 18 with an opportunity to become part of a team, train weekly and play in organised football competition. John Charlton, FCC Chairman, said: "The Beacon will create a new chapter for the club, it’s going to be a fantastic venue in the heart of Sunderland and will make a huge difference in developing our grassroots provision moving forward.
The site gives ourselves and the wider community the opportunity to utilise top class facilities, such as the 4G training barn, that previously haven’t been widely accessible in the local area. It’s also enabling the club to look beyond what was previously achievable into areas we hadn’t even considered until now.
"I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with the club for a number of years and the Beacon is something that’s been on our horizon for a while, however with the opening now quickly approaching it’s a massively exciting time for everyone." All FCC teams are run by volunteers with Foundation of Light governing the Club and have an experienced Head Coach in place to support the development of both players and coaches who are a minimum of FA Level 1 and hold up to date DBS and first aid qualifications. FCC Head Coach, Steve Jackson, added: "We can't wait to move to the Beacon of Light this summer. All of our players and volunteers are looking forward to what will be an exciting future for us all. "The Foundation Community Club has a fantastic track record of providing high quality coaching a fun learning environment and progression routes for our players but this will be taken to a whole new level when we move into our new home."
