Free and unique courses designed to support participants across the North East by raising awareness, confidence and gaining/improving life skills.
The courses consists of a mixture of classroom, practical and physical activities. Delivered from the Beacon of Light and the Foundation’s outreach sites across the North East, they have helped participants to find employment and progress onto further accredited vocational courses.

Non-accredited courses available are:

Basic First Aid:
First aid is always important to have! Come along and learn the basics and improve your first aid skills. This course last four hours.

Employability Support:
We can offer a range of employment support, providing a one-to-one service, support with CV building and provide application support. We can also offer IAG for people who want to return to the labour market. 

Employability Course:
Want to gain training and go straight into work? This is the programme for you! Our free three-week course is designed for people who are interested in manufacturing/warehousing/logistics as a career. The course combines:

  • One-week induction/training at the Beacon of Light
  • Two-week on-site work placement at Vantec

Cooking on a Budget:
Looking for ideas on how to create cheap and affordable recipes for your friends and family? This free six-week course is for anyone starting out in the kitchen or wanting to expand their kitchen knowledge. 

Esports Taster 
Interested in gaming? This free course gives you the knowledge and skills to find your next step in one of the fastest growing industries, and it all takes place in our brand new Esports centre at the Beacon of Light. 

Healthy Eating:
This free course aims to provide advice and guidance on cooking healthy meals at home. Participants will learn about the benefit of making small changes to their diet, in a fun practical environment.

Food Hygiene:
This one-day course gives learners the chance to explore Food Safety and hygiene that is essential for cooking preparing and serving food.  

Cooking for Easter:
This one-day course gives learners the chance to prepare and cook recipes with a Easter theme.  
Cooking for Christmas:
This one-day course gives learners the chance to prepare and cook recipes with a Christmas theme.  
Cooking Day Taster:
This one-day course gives learners the chance to explore and experience preparing and cooking recipes.
      
Healthy Summer Sport Activities:
This one-day course gives learners the chance to experience various sporting activities that they may not have tried in the past.  
 
Adult Esport Taster:
This one-day course gives learners the chance to experience and gain an understanding of E-Sports.  
 
Stay Safe Online Adult Awareness:
This one-day course gives learners the chance to gain an understanding and awareness of fraud while using the internet and tips and advice to avoid this.  
Sport Day Taster:
This one-day course gives learners the chance to explore and experience a typical day while attending a sport course.

History of Sunderland AFC:
This course gives learners the opportunity to find out about Sunderland Football Club and the impact it has on the region.
 
Mindful Art:
This course gives learners the opportunity to improve the art skills while helping to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
