Beacon of Light to host free Community Fun Day

Beacon of Light to host free Community Fun Day

Foundation of Light’s eagerly anticipated event is almost here, a day that almost every family in the Sunderland community will have pencilled into their diaries.

If you haven’t already guessed it – where you have been these past few weeks?

That’s right, our FREE Community Fun Day at the Beacon of Light is back.

On Thursday 11 August, families will be entertained at the home of the Foundation of Light as our ever-popular community fun day returns to Wearside.

If last year’s edition was anything to go by, we are expecting the local community to turn out in their droves and with an exciting schedule planned, the residents of Sunderland are in for an experience to remember.

The local community will be spoiled for choice when entering the ultimate community hub, with a comprehensive range of sporting activities on offer such as football, dodgeball and table tennis. Beacon of Light will also be hosting cooking activities as well as activities for those with a disability.

With the full facility being in use, the University of Sunderland and Young Asian Voices will be in attendance, delivering a wide variety of exciting activities. Woofs and Scruffs will also be supporting the day in the shape of their pop-up shop, providing dog lovers with all sorts of essentials.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Foundation of Light Managing Director, Jamie Wright said: “This is a day we all look forward to at the Foundation as it's a chance to bring the community together. Children of all ages as well as families can come together for a day of fun and games.

"We have plenty of activities happening throughout the day but more importantly we have something for everyone. We can't wait to welcome hundreds of people through the doors at the Beacon of Light."

To bring the community together even further, attendees also will have the opportunity to take on our coaches in a variety of games.

Two big black cats will also be in attendance; however, the good news doesn’t stop there. As this is always a special occasion, the Foundation are delighted to announce a few special guests will also be in attendance. Stars from the Sunderland AFC Ladies side will be making an appearance – engaging with the Sunderland community across a variety of fun-filled activities.

The League One Playoff trophy will be proudly displayed at the home of Sunderland AFC’s official charity, presenting fans with the opportunity to pose for a photo.

Food and drink will be available on the day with Burger Bros dishing up some of their classics therefore all you have to do is turn up on the day and have loads of fun. The event will start at 10am and finish at 3pm.
