Sir Tim Rice to Produce Concert at Durham Cathedral

The Foundation of Light has announced that the magnificent Durham Cathedral will play host to a truly special, star-studded concert this Christmas.

Taking place on the 15 December, Carols of Light will be produced by West End music sensation Sir Tim Rice and is set to be a spectacular and stunning event with hundreds of guests and members of the public experiencing this unique festive concert alongside a line-up of very special guests

Featuring a variety of musical performances and readings against the backdrop of the Cathedral’s stunning and famously unique stone vaulted ceiling, this non-traditional carol concert will raise thousands for the Foundation and benefit the lives of thousands of children and families across Sunderland, South Tyneside and County Durham.

Carols of Light has only been held once before in 2011 to celebrate the Foundation’s tenth birthday. The evening saw over £100,000 raised and was met with Royal approval with the HRH The Countess of Wessex, the Foundation’s Royal Patron, in attendance.

“When we last held the Carols of Light ten years ago, it really was a very special event and one we have long wanted to do again,” explains Foundation of Light Chairman, Sir Bob Murray.

“I am delighted that we are once again able to work with our friends at Durham Cathedral and Durham University to put on this very memorable event and there are some fantastic plans in place. We are working closely with Sir Tim Rice to create an exciting musical line-up, which will include some famous faces as well as provide an opportunity for local schoolchildren and choirs to get involved.

“Times are tough for so many people at the moment, but that is why events like Carols of Light are so important to us. It allows us to not only bring the community together but also raise critical funds for the Foundation, at a time when our work matters to our communities more than ever before.”

The musical line-up is set to be announced over the coming weeks, with tickets due to go on sale early this summer priced from just £25. Unique and special hospitality packages are available to purchase now from just £85 plus VAT per person.
