Foundation of Light’s Family Fun Day is back for 2024 with a jam-packed day of sports, play, and activity during the Easter holidays.
The fun day has been a hit with families across Sunderland and is back by popular demand after an extremely well-attended 2023 event.
The Beacon of Light will be open to the community on Friday 5th April from 10am to 3pm. This year’s event will be split into times slots to manage capacity. These time slots include morning (10am to 12:30pm) midday (11am to 1:30pm) and afternoon (12:30pm to 3pm) and must be booked in advance.
Entry costs £2 as a donation to the Foundation of Light, with a wide range of free activities - from football coaching sessions and multi-sports to our UV Dance Room - hosted within the Beacon throughout the day.

£5 gives a disabled youngster access to a sport session

Where will I be able to park?

Can I reach the Beacon of Light on public transport?
There are regular bus services to and from Stadium Park, with a bus stop outside the front entrance to the Beacon. We are also based just a few minutes’ walk away from the Stadium of Light and St Peter’s (the closest of the two) Tyne and Wear Metro stops.

Is there disabled access?
Yes, the Beacon of Light is fully accessible with lifts at the front and rear of the building.
Will I be able to bring a pushchair?
Pushchairs are welcome. We are designating the area between the main entrance and indoor arena viewing gallery to store pushchairs at your own risk.
Will there be refreshments available?
Local food vendors Fire & Dough and Tiger Grill are joining us on the day, as well as an Ice Cream Van. The Beacon of Light café will be running a limited drinks and cakes service. There are also vending machines near the main entrance and outside the indoor arena.
Will Sunderland AFC players be in attendance?
Although Sunderland players have attended previous events, player visits cannot be guaranteed due to training and match schedules.
A group of students from the Foundation of Light’s scholarship and study programmes were given a unique opportunity to visit Japan thanks to funding from the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
