Foundation of Light, the official charity of Sunderland AFC, has released its 2024/25 yearbook, showcasing the transformative impact of its work across the region.
Titled ‘More Than Football’ the report highlights how the Foundation of Light inspires, educates, and supports communities across the North East, sharing some of the numbers behind their impact, and real-life stories of those who are thriving thanks to the charity’s work.
The report reflects on an impactful year at the Foundation of Light as they move into their 25th anniversary year and the implementation of the ‘Brighter Tomorrow’ strategy.
During 2024/25, 500 people progressed into employment or training with the Foundation’s support, while 83% of participants reported feeling less isolated after engaging in its programmes.
The report demonstrated that, while the power of football provides a gateway into hard-to-reach communities, the Foundation’s impact extends far beyond the pitch, helping to raise aspirations and improve lives across Sunderland, South Tyneside, and County Durham.
Foundation of Light CEO, Lesley Spuhler, said: “I am proud of the way we have continued to adapt and respond to the evolving challenges faced by communities across our region.
“Our 2024/25 Yearbook highlights the life-changing work delivered through our wide-ranging programmes to inspire, educate, and support people across the North East, no matter their age, background, or interests.
“None of this would be possible without the continued generosity of our donors and supporters. Their commitment has helped us make a meaningful difference to thousands of people.
“As we look ahead to our 25th anniversary, our focus is on building on these strong foundations and ensuring the Foundation continues to be a beacon of hope for Sunderland and beyond.”
