Over-55s stepping up to challenge

Over-55s stepping up to challenge
A group of fun-loving over-50s have been coming along to the Beacon of Light each week learning skills and meeting new people as part of Foundation of Light’s weekly Walking Football. The game is played as you would expect, with a few key differences. The same rules apply as they would a standard game of football but there is no running or jogging allowed, either with or without the ball, and tackling and physical collisions are kept low impact to ensure the game is played comfortably for all participants. The Foundation hosts the sessions each week and it helps participants maintain active lifestyle, they form part of the Wear Together programme, a dedicated timetable of activities for those aged 50+. With the support of SCS, the scheme helps the Foundation reach out to older members of the community to help keep them connected. Aimed at anyone over the age of 50 who might feel isolated and want to meet new people, Wear Together brings people together through a range of different activities.
