Charlotte scores first job after working with Foundation
On ERSA Employability Day, Foundation of Light is celebrating the success of Charlotte Laddie, who has completely changed the course of her life after working with Skills Officer Susan Kane.
Foundation of Light’s Family Fun Day is back this summer for what promises to be a jam-packed day of sports, play, and summer activities.
Back for the second time this year, the official charity of Sunderland AFC is looking forward to welcoming hundreds of families from across the North East to the Beacon of Light for the Fun Day
The Beacon of Light will be open on Thursday 15th August from 10am to 3:30pm. This year’s event will be split into the following time slots to manage capacity: Morning (10am to 12:30pm), Late Morning (11am-2:30pm), Midday (12pm to 2:30pm) and Afternoon (1pm to 3:30pm).
Entry costs £2 as a donation to the Foundation of Light, with a wide range of free activities - from football challenges and multi-sports to our UV Dance Room - hosted within the Beacon throughout the day.
Sunderland AFC mascot Samson will make a special visit, so keep your eyes peeled to spot our special guests and get your photos.
The day offers something for everyone. Here are just some of the activities at the Beacon:
Important information:
Under 12s must be accompanied by an adult throughout the day.
Correct footwear must be worn to access the football pitch on the rooftop barn, spectators must watch from the viewing gallery.
Please note this is a ticketed event. No sales on the door will be available.

Where will I be able to park?

Can I reach the Beacon of Light on public transport?
There are regular bus services to and from Stadium Park, with a bus stop outside the front entrance to the Beacon. We are also based just a few minutes’ walk away from the Stadium of Light and St Peter’s (the closest of the two) Tyne and Wear Metro stops. Is there disabled access?
Yes, the Beacon of Light is fully accessible with lifts at the front and rear of the building.
Will I be able to bring a pushchair?
Pushchairs are welcome. We are designating the area between the main entrance and indoor arena viewing gallery to store pushchairs at your own risk.
Will there be refreshments available?
Local food vendors are joining us on the day, as well as an Ice Cream Van. Yard Nine Cafe will also be open. There are also vending machines near the main entrance and outside the indoor arena.
Will Sunderland AFC players be in attendance?
Although Sunderland players have attended previous events, player visits cannot be guaranteed due to training and match schedules.

Following successful trial sessions, Foundation of Light are pleased to bring Little Dribblers to the Greenhills Centre in Wheatley Hill on a regular basis.
