Community Captain Bobby honoured by Sunderland Legend Kevin Ball
Premier League Kicks volunteer Bobby Byers was presented with the Premier League Community Captain award by Sunderland AFC legend Kevin Ball.
Foundation of Light are proud to be part of North East Combined Authority’s Region of Sport.
The Region of Sport is a collaboration between the North East’s top five sports foundations – Foundation of Light, Newcastle United Foundation, Durham Cricket Foundation, Newcastle Rugby Foundation, and Eagles Community Foundation – to get more young people moving and participating in sport.
The initiative kicked off during this week’s October half-term, with each foundation involved in providing activities for young people, and Foundation of Light played our part:
Budding footballers on our football holiday course were treated to a visit from Sunderland AFC players Harrison Jones and Zak Johnson.
The Black Cats duo joined the youngsters for some games before answering questions from the group on life as a footballer and advice for younger players.
Fan favourite Enzo Le Fée also called into the Beacon of Light and took time with some of the Foundation’s holiday club participants, stopping for a chat and photos.
The Region of Sport celebrations continued as our outreach delivery was in the spotlight at Beamish Football Centre.
The football course for all abilities took place in Stanley, County Durham, showing the Foundation of Light’s impact outside of Sunderland and across the North East.
Sitting outside our immediate sphere of influence, our outreach centres allow Sunderland AFC’s official charity to provide activity in often overlooked areas, with more than 40 children taking part in the session.

The Beacon of Light welcomed the Durham Cricket Foundation as they hosted their Region of Sport launch session.
More than 100 young people took to the Beacon’s indoor arena for a smashing day of bat and ball games.
There was an opportunity for young people on Foundation of Light’s holiday club to join in with the session, encouraging them to try different sports and widen their interests.
