Sunderland AFC’s Good Friday clash against Doncaster Rovers is set to be a family-friendly affair with a host of free activities taking place at the Beacon of Light for all ages ahead of kick off.
The match has been dedicated to the club’s official charity to highlight the impact Foundation of Light has on local lives as well as supporting the
‘Give A Quid’ fundraising campaign to improve people’s mental health.
The matchday fundraising will feature bucket collections, matchday lottery and hospitality fundraising, and there will be a half-time display of some of the Foundation’s life-changing projects.
The Beacon of Light is the home of the Foundation, housing world-class sports, education and community facilities, and open to all seven days a week.
The fun starts from 1pm with activities including: football coaching and games; inflatables; Easter crafts; face painting; music and more alongside appearances from SAFC owner Charlie Methven, legend Marco Gabbiadini, and SAFC Mascots Samson and Delilah.
There will be a junior football tournament between Foundation of Light and Club Doncaster sides representing Sunderland AFC and Doncaster Rovers respectively running 1-4pm, showing off some of the Beacon of Light’s fantastic 5-a-side facilities.
The action will then move to the SAFC Fan Zone (open from 2.30pm) which will host: live music; player appearances; Samson and Delilah; Roker Report and Wise Man Say podcast debate; team news and a countdown to kick off, which takes place at 5.15pm.
Speaking about the day Foundation of Light Commercial Director Phil King said: “We’re delighted to be helping fans kick off the Bank Holiday weekend with our free family fun event at the Beacon of Light.”
“I know how parents can sometimes struggle to find things to do with the kids during the holidays but we’ve got you covered with a really exciting line up, all completely free."
