Wear 25: Hospitality student Tolu's journey to first qualification and confident presenter
Hospitality student Tolu has made remarkable progress with the Foundation of Light’s Study Programme so far, earning her a Wear 25 Award.
Foundation of Light will be in attendance at Expo Sunderland pilot event ‘Come & Play’.
Expo Sunderland is a series of events led by Sunderland City Council in partnership with the University of Sunderland, exploring the future of cities, homes and lives.
Come & Play, the first of a range of exciting pilot events aimed at residents and visitors, is taking part between February 20 and 22. Aimed at 11-17-year-olds, the interactive event will provide a window into some of the coolest new innovations and emerging technologies.
We will be at The Bridges across all three days, hosting a stall highlighting the work of the Foundation of Light and some of the opportunities that we have for young people.
SAFC mascot Samson the Cat will also be in attendance, challenging attendees to take part in the ‘Heart on your Sleeve Buzz Challenge,’ our electric maze game raising awareness for the Foundation campaign.
Foundation of Light Chief Executive Lesley Spuhler said: "We're delighted to be part of Come & Play. Young people are the future of this city and ensuring that they see this as an attractive place to live, work and play is important to the ongoing success of Sunderland.
"The event will showcase everything positive about the city and give youngsters the chance to think about their futures and what can be achieved in Sunderland."
The majority of activities for Expo Sunderland’s ‘Come & Play’ event will take place at the former New Look store on Crowtree Road. Come on down and see some of the exciting innovations on display.

June was another action-packed month for Foundation of Light, as we celebrated female sport and started preparations for the 2026/27 season.
The month formed part of the Together Through Sport campaign with the aim of inspiring more girls to get active and enjoy the benefits of sport.
