One budding star from the Foundation of Light’s Player Development Centre is an inspiration to us all, as his desire to play football sees him break down social barriers every day.
Jack is profoundly deaf and as a result has cochlear implants, yet this does not deter him from playing football.
This week, is Deaf Awareness Week across the UK and it aims to increase understanding and challenge perceptions of hearing loss and deafness.
Having the implants does make Jack’s head extra sensitive, however, he has never let that hold him back from competing at any level and he has a real love for playing and learning despite his disability.
Jack’s Mam explained: “Once Jack had the implants fitted, I had no idea what he’d be able to do. With mainstream activities you find that it can be restrictive to those with a disability, but the Foundation of Light is totally inclusive and it has made no difference to what he can join in with or how he is treated within his group.
“The sessions have given Jack a real zest for life as well as a social circle he’s much more confident in.”

Deaf Awareness Week runs from 4-10 May and is a unique campaign in that so many different organisations participate, each showcasing their own work within the broad spectrum of deafness.
