New mental health drop-in sessions offer friendly support

People across Sunderland are being invited to access free, welcoming mental health drop-in sessions delivered by Foundation of Light's Game of II Halves programme.

Taking place every Monday from 5pm to 7pm at the Beacon of Light, the sessions provide a safe and supportive space where individuals can talk openly, feel heard and receive information about local services and support available to them.

Led by trained Game of II Halves ambassadors, the drop-ins are designed for anyone who may be feeling isolated, struggling with day-to-day challenges, or simply in need of a friendly conversation. No appointment is required, with people encouraged to drop in whenever they feel they need support.

The sessions offer:

  • A friendly and supportive environment
  • A safe space to talk and be listened to
  • Information and signposting to local services
  • No appointment necessary

The service is non-clinical and focuses on peer support, conversation and guidance. Ambassadors are not mental health professionals and cannot provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Steve Brindley, Game of II Halves Delivery Officer at Foundation of Light, said:"Mental health challenges can affect anyone, and we know that sometimes the hardest step is reaching out.

"These drop-in sessions offer a welcoming environment where people can talk openly, connect with others and find out what support is available to them. Whether someone is feeling isolated, facing a difficult time or simply wants a conversation, our ambassadors are here to listen and help people access the right support."

Game of II Halves is Foundation of Light's mental health and wellbeing programme, using the power of football to encourage people to talk more openly about mental health, build connections and access support when they need it.
