Opportunities for local groups to help get Sunderland active

Opportunities for local groups to help get Sunderland active
We're looking to partner with and fund local community groups and organisations, to deliver physical activity projects in Sunderland, Washington or Coalfields, as part of a programme that aims to bring disabled and non-disabled people together, to be active in fun and inclusive ways. The Foundation is a lead delivery partner of Get Out, Get Active (GOGA), an exciting programme created by the Activity Alliance, that supports disabled and non-disabled people to enjoy being active together. It is made possible by founding funder Spirit of 2012 and additional investment from Sport England and the London Marathon Charitable Trust. Sunderland GOGA is focused on getting some of Sunderland lest active people moving more through fun and inclusive activities. GOGA is more than about getting people active. It aims to strengthen community spirit, improve participants confidence and mental health, as well as increasing the demand for accessible activities. As the lead delivery organisation for Sunderland GOGA, the Foundation has already successfully delivered several initiatives and partnered with local organisations including Tailored Leisure, Headway Wearside, SARA (Southwick Altogether Raising Aspirations) and more! as part of the programme, supporting 724 people to get out and get active. The charity is now looking for local community groups and organisations who would like to apply to be a Sunderland GOGA Partner and deliver a project that will help people be mor physically active. Partners must be embedded further into the most deprived local communities and will be funded to deliver physical activity projects in Sunderland GOGA that achieve the core principles of the programme. To be involved successful programmes must:
  • Support disabled and non-disabled people to be active together through genuinely inclusive environments.
  • Deliver a physical activity project to participants from Sunderland North, Sunderland East, Sunderland West, Coalfields or Washington areas.
Be targeted to work with one or more of the below audiences:
  • Lower Socio-Economic Status
  • Families
  • Children and Young People (0-19 Years)
  • Socially Isolated Groups:
  • Disability
  • BAME
  • Veterans
  • Older Adults
Be outreach, inclusive, sustainable beyond the lifespan of their GOGA project and help us to make an impact by 2023, demonstrating how communities are working to be active for life. Connect and engage with communities to tap into people’s real-life motivations to be physically active and co-produce projects with participants based on their needs. Effectively market their programme to ensure activities provided are inclusie for all. Explaining more about the project, Foundation of Light’s Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, Jade Gilbertson said “We have been successfully running the GOGA programme across Sunderland, Coalfield and Washington areas since April 2020 and will continue to deliver the programme until 2023. Our aim is to use the power of sport, physical activity and the Sunderland AFC brand, to engage the hardest to reach participants from the most deprived communities in the area, across a bespoke range of targeted intervention programmes covering physical activity, sport, and education. “Getting the region moving and healthy is a joint effort, and we would love to hear from, and work with, local groups who can help us in our mission to use the power of sport to help our communities live happier and healthier lives.” Everything you need to apply: Programme summary >>> Application form >>>
