PUPILS HAVE ‘SOLE’ WITH WINNING FOOTWEAR
Nearly 50 primary school pupils took part in a special celebration event this week at the Beacon of Light as part of Foundation of Light’s Samson Shoes Primary Enterprise programme. The 10-week programme guides pupils through the basic principles involved in taking a product to market including, pricing, market research and promotion to develop new shoe ideas for Sunderland AFC mascot Samson. Delivered in schools, the pupils worked in teams to produce a presentation that they performed in front of a panel of judges which consisted of staff from Foundation of Light and Caterpillar Ltd. Pupils from Ox Close Primary School and West Pelton Primary School attended the event at the Beacon of Light, the state-of-the-art new home of SAFC charity, Foundation of Light.
Every group presented very well today, each team brought something different and made it very hard for the judges to pick a winner
Danielle Chapman, Premier League Primary Stars Education Coordinator
The winners were ‘Cool Costa Kids’ from Ox Close Primary who wowed the judges with their design and features which included lava-protected coating on the shoe due to volcanoes in Costa Rica, and Bluetooth technology so children in remote parts of the country can listen to the educational programming on the radio. Samson’s Shoes is part of the Foundation of Light’s portfolio of programmes for Primary Schools that are available across Sunderland, County Durham and South Tyneside.
