Summer of fun at the Beacon

Our Summer at the Beacon six-week programme returns this July and this year promises to be the best yet. 

As the school year comes to an end there is lots to celebrate this summer, the Beacon of Light’s fifth birthday, the FIFA Women’s World Cup and lots of new activities on our Summer at the Beacon programme. 

From our Little Dribblers sessions to our over-55s Wear Together programme, there’s something for everyone, from Football on our 3G pitches to baking in our kitchen.  

Take a look below at just some of the activities going on at the Beacon of Light until 1^st September. 

Future Lionesses Day – Girls can come to the Beacon to watch England’s World Cup games on our big screen, before being put through their paces in a training session on our 3G pitches. 

Tastes of the World – Join us in our Ministry of Food Kitchen with recipes from around the globe inspired by the teams competing in the Women’s World Cup. 

FIFA Tournament and Kickabout – Come and showcase your skills on and off the pitch! Enjoy a Champions League-style tournament on FIFA 23 before taking to our 3G pitches to take on FIFA-style football challenges. 

Disability Multi-sports – Enjoy a range of sports including basketball, boxing, hockey, cricket, football and many more.  

After the success of last year’s Foundation Community Funday we’re doing it all again this year. On Thursday 17^th August (10am-3pm) families can come to the Beacon of Light for the free event and enjoy a whole host of activities, with soft play, football challenges, face-painting and lots more to enjoy.  

Speaking about the Summer at the Beacon campaign, Foundation of Light Managing Director, Jamie Wright said: “Summer at the Beacon is an incredibly popular event in Sunderland and we’re super excited to welcome hundreds of people through the doors at the Beacon of Light. 

“This is a very important event to us here at the Foundation and we are determined to make it an unforgettable experience to everyone who attends.” 

Also keep your eyes peeled as some special Sunderland AFC guests may also be in attendance throughout the six weeks.

Following the closing date, the winners will be chosen at random and contacted to claim their prize. They will be contacted via the platform they entered on how to claim their prize. If the winner does not respond within one week, the next winner will be chosen at random and emailed within one week.
