The Sunderland Story to perform at Foundation of Light Gala Awards Dinner

Foundation of Light is pleased to announce that The Sunderland Story will perform at our Gala Awards Dinner at the Beacon of Light.

The event – taking place on Thursday 30 November – is a highlight in the charity’s calendar, celebrating the impact the Foundation has made to lives across the region, while raising funds to help make sure that work can continue.

Cast members from The Sunderland Story will join us to perform a 20-minute highlights set of their hit show which sold out to crowds at the Empire Theatre in May.

The show is a feel-good story about family, friends and a lifelong love of the red and white stripes of a beloved football club and joins the line-up of an event-packed evening at the Gala Dinner.

Chart-topping recording artist and award-winning actor Jason Donovan will also headline the event, taking to the stage after a showcase of inspiring stories from children, families and adults who have overcome adversity.

“The Sunderland story is delighted to be associated with the Foundation of Light Gala Dinner,” said Peter Hackett, Director of Alterean Media.

“The whole reason why we wanted to make a show about this club was its unique connection to the fans and the role it’s always played within the community throughout its history.

“The Sunderland Story played to sellout crowds at The Empire in May to tie in with the anniversary of the 1973 Cup Final win and we were joined on stage by some legends of the club who helped to win that trophy.

“We have been overwhelmed by the reaction from fans wanting to see it again and from those who missed out last time, so we are already planning to bring the show back and will be announcing dates very soon.

“We hope you enjoy a little taster of the songs we use to tell the story of this great club from two of our amazingly talented cast members.”

Foundation of Light CEO, Lesley Spuhler, was eager to work with The Sunderland Story team after attending a show at the Empire Theatre, adding: “This performance will be a wonderful addition to our Gala Awards Dinner.

“The show is an excellently written, heartfelt story which really captures the importance of football clubs to their communities. It really is a perfect fit for our evening as we celebrate some of the Foundation’s success stories from across the year.”

Sir Bob Murray, Steve Cram, George Clarke and Sunderland AFC stars and legends are just some of the special guests who will also be in attendance at the Gala Awards Dinner.

Gala Awards Dinner will take place on Thursday 30 November at the Beacon of Light.

Tables of 10 are available from just £1,750 plus VAT with individual tickets also on offer. Tickets include a VIP drinks reception and three course awards dinner.
