Fair turnout for volunteers
Foundation of Light's first Volunteers Fair was a huge success with dozens of community volunteers eager to join the award-winning charity ahead of its move to the Beacon of Light. Sunderland AFC’s official charity hosted the event to showcase the various opportunities available when the Beacon opens its doors to the public later this month, with Foundation staff on hand to discuss roles within the Sport and Play, World of Work, Health and Wellbeing and Education teams. Attendees also discovered more about the organisation's Business Administration Apprenticeships which are a great way for school leavers to gain qualifications and vital experience in a real-life working environment.
"I was working as a Quantity Surveyor in construction in Cambridge but was made redundant. "I haven't really worked for two and a half years due to a life-threatening car accident and I'm looking for something to fill my time. "The Foundation is a fantastic cause and I'm happy to volunteer in any area which will not only help me but other people too."

Alex Dunn, HR Officer added “volunteering is a great way to improve your skills and experience, all whilst doing something positive for your community.” “We had a great turnout from our first volunteers fair and hopefully we can help those people find the opportunities that they’re looking for.”
