Foundation of Light and Stagecoach join forces to support young people

Foundation of Light is teaming up with Stagecoach North East, which will see the bus operator support a range of community and youth development initiatives across Sunderland and the wider region.

The partnership kicks off with Stagecoach backing the Foundation’s popular holiday courses at the Beacon of Light, giving young people the chance to stay active, develop new skills and make friends in a safe and supportive environment during the school break.

Over the coming months, Stagecoach and the Foundation will work closely together to deliver a programme of activity designed to inspire the next generation. This includes Stagecoach staff hosting career days at the Beacon of Light, offering advice, insights and hands-on sessions for local school pupils.

Young people will also have the chance to gain valuable first-hand experience of working with Stagecoach North East and attend workshops, mock interviews and Q&A sessions with Stagecoach staff will help prepare young people for the world of work.

Foundation of Light Chief Executive Lesley Spuhler said: “Together, we’ll be helping young people build confidence, learn new skills and explore career opportunities, all while supporting families and schools in our communities.”

David Parker, Commercial Director for Stagecoach North East, said: “As a major local transport operator, we feel it's vital that we go beyond mere service delivery and try to give back and contribute positively to the areas that we serve.

“We’re proud of our hard-working employees, who do a fantastic job ensuring people can access social, employment, education, retail and leisure opportunities across the region.

“This partnership will enable them to inspire and pass on valuable knowledge to the next generation of young people, making it a fantastic initiative.”

The collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both organisations to making a positive impact across the North East, breaking down barriers, raising aspirations and opening up opportunities for young people.
