Young people from Foundation of Light’s Premier League Kicks group headed to The Venue in Stanley to join the over 55s Wear Together session.
The event saw two of the Foundation’s programmes come together for a celebration of the charity’s impact across generations.
The groups combined for a range of Halloween themed activities including games and quizzes to break down generational stereotypes, explore common ground, and build better understanding across the community.
“Our Delves Lane Kicks group came along to The Venue for one of our intergenerational projects, where we bring young people and over 55s together,” said Craig Martin, the Foundation’s Informal Community Education Projects Manager.
“This week our Kicks group prepared the quiz, brought some art supplies, and they’re playing Halloween games.

“It’s fabulous to see because we often find older people are scared of young people and vice versa, so we try to do this as often as we can to show them that they have common ground, they’re just people at the end of the day. Both these groups are based in and around Stanley, so they share a community.”
Helping to facilitate the event were volunteers involved in the Premier League Kicks group, which opened their eyes to further volunteering outside of their comfort zone.
Craig added: “One of the reasons we brought a particular two of our young people across is because they’re now 18, so they are going through the volunteer process.
“It might be helpful for them, on days where they’re not in college, to come and help out with Wear Together as well as Kicks.
“For anyone thinking about volunteering, I would say definitely do it. You get so much reward out of it internally.”
