Foundation of Light has proudly released our annual yearbook, showcasing a year of impact at Sunderland AFC’s official charity.
Titled ‘Year of Impact, Lifetime of Happiness’ the report looks at some of the numbers and real-life stories behind the Wear One campaign.
Through Wear One, Foundation of Light has been encouraging the people of Sunderland to pull together as one and offer support to those in need, fostering an inclusive community.
The campaign is tackling the stark statistic that one in three children in Sunderland is living in poverty.
Within the yearbook, you will find stories of how Sunderland AFC’s official charity has used the power of football to empower people to improve their lives, equipping them with the support, tools, and opportunities that they need.
Over the past year we have delivered over 750 sessions, up-skilled almost 1500 young people and adults and helped secure nearly 100 jobs.
Foundation of Light has also provided football development and created sporting pathways as well as offering inclusive sports sessions to those who may struggle to access activities.
Within the yearbook, you will find the stories of individuals like Laila Johnson – who overcame social struggles to become a real leader within her community and is now studying at university – and Kevin Ramsey – who has been able to continue to play the sport he loves during his struggles with Parkinson’s disease thanks to the Foundation’s Neurological Walking Football session.
Foundation of Light CEO, Lesley Spuhler, said: “I am incredibly proud of how we’ve adapted to meet the evolving challenges faced by our region.
“Our 2023-24 Yearbook reflects on the important work carried out through our wide-ranging programmes to empower those across the North East to live better lives.
“None of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors and supporters, whose dedication has helped raise an incredible £5 million this year alone.
“Looking ahead, our goal is to build on these foundations, ensuring that the Foundation remains a beacon of hope for Sunderland and beyond.”
