Foundation partnership with MPCT recognised

The Foundation of Light has been recognised for its work with the Military Preparation College at their annual North East Awards Ceremony, where the Foundation was awarded a special Partnership Award.

Held at St. James' Park, the ceremony saw MPCT learners from Catterick, Newcastle, Sunderland and Teesside showcase the results of all their hard work in front of their families, serving and former members of the armed forces, and local dignitaries.

The Sunderland college, which is one of four in the North East, is based at the Foundation's home - the Beacon of Light - and supports 16 to 19-year-olds, of all abilities and from all backgrounds, into a wide range of careers, both within the military and in civilian life.

These include academic, functional and health and fitness courses along with training in physical fitness, public speaking and communication.

Taking about the strong collaborative relationship between the Foundation and MPCT, North East Regional Operations Manager and former Sandhurst instructor, Ronnie Corbett, said “The North East has a long and very proud tradition of Armed Service and that is still the case,” he said.

“As public awareness of the vast number of careers available within the military has grown, we have seen a significant increase in enquiries from young people.

“And not only has the Beacon of Light supported us to increase our intake of recruits, but with that extra space come fantastic facilities, shared values and a very strong community network."

Working in partnership, MPCT learners have gone on to gain employment with the Foundation of Light and Sunderland AFC as they wait to start their military careers.

Speaking about the award Sophie Ashcroft, Head of Marketing and Communications for the Foundation, said "We are delighted to be recognised by the Military Preparation College for our partnership work. We are really proud of the strong links we have forged with MPCT staff and students over the last two years, and proud that they have called the Beacon their home.

"Many congratulations to those who came away with an award, but also to every single learner that attended – the dedication they have shown throughout their preparations for the event shone through in a range of perfectly executed displays that gave all our guests an outstanding insight into life at MPCT for their young people, and how it sets them on the pathway to achieving their goals and career success."
