Foundation of Light is delighted to announce the return of our International Cycle Challenge, with the 2023 destination recently revealed at an information evening held at the Beacon of Light.
The Foundation will have its very own Tour de France later in the year, which will see 30 prospective riders’ cycle through Paris before completing the gruelling three-day ride in London.
Starting the challenge on 3 July, competitors will start the first jaunt of their journey with a view to savour, against the backdrop of one of the world’s most iconic and unique landmarks, the Eiffel Tower.
The latest instalment of the cycle challenge will witness cyclists travel through some of Northern France’s most stunning and quaint communes, including Boisemont, Vernon and Le Héron.
Accumulating to a total of approximately 200 miles with 5390 feet of climbing, the event will conclude in England’s capital, finishing at Greenwich Royal Observatory on 5 July.
An incredible £450,000 has been raised since the International Cycle Challenge begun in 2012, helping people in need across Wearside through Foundation of Light’s life-changing programmes.
Previous routes have seen various teams compete in destinations such as Croatia, Italy and Switzerland, encountering some spectacular routes along the way.
Jemma Dowson, Head of Events & Beacon of Light General Manager said: “Following the success of last year’s challenge, the event in Paris can’t come quickly enough and I know our riders are also extremely excited to head to France.
“It presents another opportunity to raise a lot of money for the people of Sunderland and we’re eternally grateful to everyone participating this year.”
Foundation of Light are still seeking a sponsor for the upcoming International Cycle Challenge. To discuss this or for more information on how you can participate in the event, please contact jemma.dowson@foundationoflight.co.uk.
