Sir Bob honoured with SAFC Hall of Fame induction
Sir Bob Murray will be inducted into the Sunderland AFC Hall of Fame at half-time when Sunderland AFC host Brighton & Hove Albion at the Stadium of Light.
There is more support available than ever before to help people quit smoking, as Foundation of Light encourages Sunderland residents to Kick the Habit this No Smoking Day.
The Sunderland Specialist Stop Smoking Service offers free, friendly and confidential support for people who want to stop smoking for good.
Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do to improve your health, and your body will begin to repair itself from the moment you stop smoking.
A smoke-free life starts with a smoke-free day, so take the first step towards a healthier future this No Smoking Day. Here’s some of the support available:
Tailored Support
Sunderland Specialist Stop Smoking Service’s free support includes an individual quit programme for up to 12 weeks.
This includes tailored advice and one-to-one support from specialist practitioners, helping you develop the tools and confidence needed to quit for good.
Swap to Stop
As part of your individual quit programme, you can claim a free vape starter kit through the ‘Swap to Stop’ initiative.
Using a vape alongside specialist support has been proven to significantly increase the chances of quitting smoking. Many people then go on to gradually stop vaping as well.
SmokeFree App
New for 2026 - try the SmokeFree App, providing additional support directly from your mobile phone.
The app offers a range of remote support, including access to expert advisors, badges and certificates to celebrate milestones, community support from other people quitting smoking and access to a free vape if you live in Sunderland.
The app is clinically proven to double your chances of quitting, with someone successfully quitting through the app every five minutes.
