Holiday courses kick off in style

Foundation of Light’s first holiday course of the year proved to be a memorable one as over 300 people visited the Beacon of Light.

The fun-filled week witnessed children aged 4-14 engage in numerous activities, as the Beacon’s 3G five-a-side pitches, 4G Indoor Barn, Indoor Arena and World of Work zones were all occupied.

Attendees were given the opportunity to demonstrate their football skills with an array of activities, including disability football and cage football.

For all the passionate foodies, they accessed the Beacon’s Ministry of Food kitchen, where they participated in activities such as baking and mindful baking. The younger participants were treated to a ‘Little Dribblers Big Day Out – an experience which combines a tour of the Stadium of Light with an afternoon of football at the Beacon.

It was the fourth day of the holiday course, however, that will be treasured forever, as SAFC wonderkid Jewison Bennette surprised fans with a visit to the Beacon.

Bennette showcased his FIFA skills, playing with his very own Costa Rica before enjoying a kickabout with budding stars in the Indoor Barn.

Joanne Douthwaite, parent of Sophie who attended Wednesday’s activities said: “Sophie had a fabulous time, everything was super engaging. She came away buzzing. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing these sessions together.”

Melanie Chapman added: “Our Jenson had such a good day. Thank you to everyone that makes this possible, you give 100% to our boys and girls all year-round.”
