Hundreds of families from Sunderland and County Durham celebrated their learning achievements as a special ceremony at the Stadium of Light this week. Parents and youngsters from 25 primary schools attended Foundation of Light's Family Learning Graduations to make their completion of the 10-week programme. Using the power of football to engage families and inspire learning and achievement, the award-winning Family Learning course helps adults develop new skills and then improve relationships by taking part in activities with their children. In 2016 the programme worked with over 1,300 families across the North East. Marian, who has taken part in a number of Family Learning courses at Roseberry Primary, said: "It was really good to spend time with the children and I enjoyed the interaction with other parents."
The Family Learning course was good fun and it's a great way of spending time with the children and meeting new people.
Trish, who completed the Family Finance course with grandson Jake
Sarah Leadbitter, Further Education Officer at Foundation of Light, added: "Our Family Learning Graduations are definitely one of the high points of our year. To see so many people who have challenged themselves to learn, develop and improve their lives for themselves and their families come together in celebration is very rewarding.” "All of this is only possible thanks to our fantastic programme supporters who help us engage hundreds of families across the region." The Family Learning portfolio of programmes is supported by Sunderland City Council FACL; Durham County Council Adult Learning and Skills, Caterpillar, Karbon Homes and livin.
