The Foundation of Light truly was a lifeline for Maia, who by her own admission, does not know where she would have been now if not for joining the Back on Track programme.
Maia was bullied at school and as a result the youngster fell ill, losing her eyebrows, struggling to get up on a morning and pretty much becoming a recluse.
The thoughts of leaving the house, let alone returning to full time education were so far from Maia’s mind.
In a brave step, Maia agreed to take part in the Foundation’s Back on Track sessions; a programme that offers 16-19-year-olds the opportunity to gain skills ahead of going on to seek employment.
This offered Maia a safe environment where she could slowly rebuild her confidence and progress her education that she had missed out on.
It also helped Maia gain nationally recognised qualifications while gaining practical working experience.
“Maia has come on leaps and bounds thanks to the Foundation,’ her mam explained.
“My baby girl is back; if it wasn’t for the Foundation I’d hate to think where she would be. We talk much more than we ever used to, the family have noticed a complete change in her and we can now do mother and daughter things.”
