Pupils celebrate International Women’s Day
Scores of pupils from across Sunderland celebrated International Women’s Day at the Beacon of Light.

As part of Foundation of Light’s Premier League Primary Starts programme dozens of youngsters enjoyed taking part in dedicated workshops celebrating inspirational females and discussing role models.

On the day special guest, SAFC mascot handed out prizes to those who had taken part, shirts signed by Sunderland AFC Ladies team.

All pupils who attended the activity day were given a pair of tickets to cheer on the Lady Black Cats at their home game against Watford.

Primary Stars coordinator Danielle Chapman said: “It’s important for children to recognise and commemorate the achievements of women over the years, but also important that International Women’s Day is celebrated as part of an inclusive society.”

Ladies captain Keira Ramshaw added: “It’s great kids have the chance to get involved in these dedicated workshops and activities thanks to the Foundation of Light.

“We can’t wait to see them at our next home game.”
