Special Christmas Appeal in Support of Wear One Campaign
Foundation of Light, the official charity of Sunderland AFC, is delighted to reveal details of a special Christmas appeal as part of the Wear One campaign.
A passionate Sunderland AFC fan will net a hat-trick of fundraising events by taking on October's thrilling zip ride across the River Wear.
Roy Hammonds will take the 900ft plunge from the roof of the Stadium of Light after completing the Lambton 10k in June and this month's 17.5m Hadrian's Wall Walk with Black Cats legend Niall Quinn to raise funds for Foundation of Light and Beacon of Light.
The money raised by the long-time Foundation supporter through his endeavours has helped improve the lives of thousands of families and children across the North East.
Roy said: "I first saw the amazing work the Foundation does when my grandson joined their Little Dribblers programme.
Everyone was so committed and passionate which convinced me to get involved. Since then I've taken part in as many events as possible, and have been lucky enough to be invited along to Foundation sessions which made me feel very proud.
"I can't speak highly enough of the Foundation and the people who work there. They give people opportunities they wouldn't normally have in life.
"I've had some great experiences and hopefully there's a few more to come."
On Sunday 8th October, Zip Wear will see over 100 daredevil fundraisers start from the roof of the Stadium and travel 25mph – while suspended 150ft in the air – to the opposite bank at Liebherr Sunderland Works Ltd.
Places are still available for £20 deposit plus a minimum £100 charity donation to the Foundation.
No experience is necessary, although participants MUST be at least 12 years old and under 16s MUST be accompanied by an adult.
Jemma Garrett, Foundation of Light's Events Manager, added: "We are very grateful to Roy for his tremendous support over the years and to complete our Lambton Run, Hadrian's Wall Walk and Zip Wear this year is a fantastic achievement.
"It's selflessness from people like Roy who help make a huge difference to so many lives in the North East."
