Heroes Week: How military veterans impact communities at Foundation of Light
Sunderland AFC’s official charity has several armed forces experienced personnel working across various roles and inspiring the next generation.
Foundation of Light founder and chairman, Sir Bob Murray, took part in a chit and chat with the organisation’s volunteers as part of a special thank you ahead of National Volunteers’ Week.
The former chairman of Sunderland AFC stopped by a volunteer meeting to say thank you to those who give their time to support the work of the club’s official charity.
Over 100 volunteers work with Foundation of Light, delivering more than 10,000 hours per year of impact.
From grassroots football coaching to assisting in teaching, volunteers provide essential support to the delivery of the Foundation’s life-changing programmes.

After talking to the volunteers, Sir Bob Murray said: “It was wonderful to meet some of the incredible people who devote their time to help the Foundation of Light. We are extremely grateful for the crucial support that volunteers provide our staff in the delivery of our programmes and events.
“The enthusiasm and determination to support a life-changing charity was clear to see in everyone in the room as well as the care they have in their community. It was a privilege to spend some time with them."
