Historic Derby saw North East unite for purpose beyond football
While the Black Cats faced the Magpies for the first time in eight years in league competition, the official charities of the North East rivals united behind a greater cause.
I’m really excited to be leading the next Coaches Clinic at the Beacon of Light and sharing some of what I’ve learnt over the years. Strength and conditioning is vital in any sport not just football. It will improve performance, reduce risk of injury and build a robust athlete. It can be difficult for coaches to factor this in given the technical and tactical requirements alongside the competition schedule. Nevertheless, it should be implemented regardless of age or level you’re playing at. Scott Pearce, Head of Strength and Conditioning at Foundation of LightScott has a proven track record of the development of physical fitness in football, ranging from youth football through to the professional game. After leaving Sunderland’s Academy of Light in 2017 he spent a year working with the Taiwanese national team before taking an opportunity with Foundation of Light, leading on the Strength and Conditioning gym within the Beacon of Light. Scott adds, “we will soon be offering strength and conditioning sessions for players and squads wishing to take their game to the next level, all from within our own purpose-built gym in the Beacon. “The Beacon of Light is a fantastic place for people to come to play, learn and improve and I’m proud to be part of it.”
