Former SAFC defender Danny Collins joined SAFC non-executive directors David Jones and Tom Sloanes as BBC’s Jeff Brown hosted the Foundation of Light’s Fixtures Breakfast.
We found out on Friday morning that the Lads will kick off the new EFL League One campaign at the Stadium of Light against Bristol Rovers next month.
The football club’s official charity honoured their annual tradition of hosting a get-together for the reveal of the 2020-21 fixture list, however, as with most other events this year it had a different format than usual.
The Foundation would normally host donors at the Beacon of Light with a bacon sandwich and a cuppa as anticipation builds for the season ahead.
This year, Jeff Brown hosted the panel and scores of Foundation fundraisers via Zoom as the quartet discussed the upcoming season.
Football throws up many a coincidence and this year’s fixture list hasn’t let us down, as Tom Sloanes pointed out our opening day opposition, were actually the Lads’ last opponents pre-lockdown.
The panel also discussed the Boxing Day clash with Hull City that will see George Honeyman return to the SoL and the final game of the season against newly promoted Northampton Town.
There’s plenty of other anecdotes during the chat as the four discuss one of the most bizarre years they’ve had to deal with.
