Sensory Play
What is sensory play?
Sensory play includes activities that stimulate children’s senses such as sight, sound, smell, taste or touch. By providing this type of activity children will learn more about the world around them in a natural way, through their senses, supporting brain development by stimulating the neurons in the brain to make connections, and help with development in all areas of learning.
Sensory experiences can be calming and therapeutic for young children and help them work through their emotions, anxieties and frustrations. They can release pent up energy and allow children mastery over new skillsets.
Who is it for?
Our Sensory Play sessions are design specifically for children and young people aged 5 to 25 years old with disabilities. We create a quiet, safe and welcoming space for children, young people and their adults to explore a range of activities to stimulate their senses whilst developing relationships with their friends and family.
Sessions are led by trained Foundation of Light staff who have extensive experience of working with children and adults with disabilities. Staff are fully DBS checked.
The Beacon of Light is a fully accessible building with free disabled parking at the front of the building, lifts to all levels and hearing loops.
