YOLO
Working in partnership with Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner's Violence Reduction Unit, YOLO supports young people aged 10-16 who have carried, been in possession of, or are at risk of carrying a knife or weapon — as well as those identified as being potentially involved in serious violence in the future.
This free, 20-week early intervention programme is delivered by our specialist Youth Engagement Team. Referrals are accepted via the Youth Justice Service and Northumbria Police, with schools and other partner services also able to refer (subject to police triage to ensure the young person has not previously been charged to court).
Each participant is matched with a dedicated Youth Work Officer and offered:
- 1:1 mentoring and tailored support
- Targeted intervention sessions addressing key risks and behaviours
- Positive engagement opportunities through sport, music, art, and community social action projects
Intervention sessions cover a wide range of topics, including:
Knife Crime Awareness, Social Media Safety, Community Cohesion (ASB), Drugs & Alcohol Awareness, Exploitation & County Lines, Hate Crime, Goal Setting, Healthy Relationships, and Laws & Consequences.
