Chairman of the Foundation of Light, Sir Bob Murray welcomed the Right Reverend Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham to the Stadium of Light to thank him for his support ahead of Carols of Light at Durham Cathedral on 15th December 2022.
Produced by West End music sensation Sir Tim Rice, the special concert in aid of Sunderland AFC’s official charity is set to be a spectacular and stunning event with hundreds of guests and members of the public experiencing this unique festive concert alongside a line-up of very special guests which also includes:

- World renowned keyboard player and composer, Rick Wakeman CBE
- Alan Price, musician and original keyboardist in 'The Animals’
- Acclaimed Piper Kathryn Tickell

The Salvation Army Band, Durham Cathedral Adult Choir and St Mary’s Primary School Choir will also perform on the night.
The musical performances and readings will be performed against the backdrop of the Cathedral’s stunning and famously unique stone vaulted ceiling, this non-traditional carol concert will raise thousands for the Foundation benefit the lives of thousands of children and families across Sunderland, South Tyneside and County Durham.
Carols of Light has only been held once before in 2011 to celebrate the Foundation’s tenth birthday. The evening saw over £100,000 raised and was met with Royal approval with the HRH The Countess of Wessex, the Foundation’s Royal Patron, in attendance.

Since we announced the event earlier this year, we have had an unprecedented number of enquiries for tickets and we are anticipating that this very special event will sell out very quickly.’ explains Foundation of Light Chairman, Sir Bob Murray.

“Sir Tim Rice is creating an exciting musical line-up, which will include some famous faces as well as provide an opportunity for local schoolchildren and choirs to get involved.”
