FLANAGAN NAMED PFA COMMUNITY CHAMPION 2019/20
Tom Flanagan has been awarded this season’s Community Champion Award by the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) in recognition of his ongoing support for the club’s official charity, the Foundation of Light. The PFA Community Champion Award aims to raise awareness of the great support that PFA members provide to their club’s community activities during the season. The Northern Ireland international has supported a variety of Foundation of Light education, health and sports projects, as well as taken part in school, hospital and hospice visits. Jamie Wright, Foundation of Light’s Managing Director praised Flanagan’s support saying: “Without a doubt Tom has been this season’s Community Champion. He has spent a lot of time with us and gotten involved in a number of our projects, taking time to talk and chat to both younger and older members of our community. “As the official charity of Sunderland AFC, the players play an important role in our work, helping to inspire children, young people and families across Sunderland, South Tyneside and Durham. When they attend projects, they are making incredible memories for those who they meet. “We would like to thank Tom for his support and the time he has put aside to help us. We look forward to seeing him back again next season.”In March, Tom visited the Beacon of Light as part of the EFL Day of Action – watch the video below to hear his thoughts on the event, the activities and about the Beacon of Light itself.
