Foundation of Light marks Great North Run milestone

Foundation of Light marks Great North Run milestone

As runners from across the UK get set to take on the 42nd Great North Run, this year marks 10 years since the Foundation of Light first took on the run.

This year sees a team of 20 runners take on the 13.1 mile half-marathon challenge to help raise funds for the Foundation of Light.

Among those running for the Foundation of Light is a familiar face to many Sunderland fans.

Match day commentator and singer, Frankie Francis will be taking on the challenge for the second time after first taking part in the race in 2021.

As well as returning runners, four Foundation of Light staff members will also be stepping up to the challenge as they join over 50,000 runners taking on the iconic city-to-coast route.

In the build-up to this year’s race, the Foundation of Light runners were invited to meet first-team players Elliott Embleton and Jenson Seelt as they passed on their best wishes to the runners and posed for photos at the Stadium of Light, prior to the match against Rotherham.

“The Great North Run is always a highlight for many in the North East and we are always thrilled to be part of such a great event” said Lesley Spuhler OBE, CEO of the Foundation of Light.

“It is great to have familiar faces returning to run for the Foundation as well as our own staff who are taking on the challenge.”
