International Day of Education: Stats behind successful year of community education

Foundation of Light is celebrating the success of our Premier League Primary Stars and Inspires programmes on International Day of Education.

Primary Stars and Inspires are national curriculum-linked programmes which use the appeal of professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, and the stats outline their success.

Within Foundation of Light’s Primary Stars delivery, 85% of learners involved have reported an improvement in their mental wellbeing.

This includes students such as six-year-old Cole Griffiths, whose development was recognised at the Foundation’s Gala Awards Dinner where he won the Wear Excellent Award.

82% of Primary Stars students also reported improved confidence, while 81% also felt their physical health and teamwork skills had improved.

Premier League Inspires engages young people aged 11-25 who are marginalised or at risk of not reaching their potential, supporting them as they move through the education system.

For those who have worked with the Foundation of Light’s Inspires programme, 72% became more aware of the jobs available to them and the relevant academic pathways that they can take.

62% of participants also said that their attendance had improved since starting their intervention in September, while 61% have reported an improvement in their physical health.

Ocean Jones is one of those students, who joined the programme in a period of disengagement with education, but through intervention has grown into a role model to her peers.
