This Sunday, the world’s biggest and best half-marathon returns as 57,000 runners prepare to compete in the 41st edition of the annual Great North Run.
The 2022 event will return to its iconic city-to-coast route – returning to South Shields for the first time since the pandemic.
Participants will embrace the unbeatable atmosphere as they attempt to raise life-changing money for good causes, with Foundation of Light set to be well represented at this year’s event.
Newcastle International Airport COO (Chief Operating Officer) Richard Knight is one of the participants running on behalf of the Foundation, spreading his wings for a second successive year after raising £1000 for Sunderland AFC’s official charity in 2021.
Reminiscing about 12 months ago and looking ahead to Sunday, Richard said: “I really enjoyed the Great North Run last year, it what a great event and day out.
“A half marathon is always a challenge and to be able to participate with my wife and raise money for the Foundation was a privilege. The Foundation has been one of the airport’s three charity partners for the past few years but more importantly the work the Foundation team do within the community is fantastic. If I can play a small part in supporting such a great cause, I will be pleased.”
Running side by side with his wife again, Richard revealed what makes the Great North Run such a special event to compete in. “The Great North Run is an iconic event that showcases the North East to the world so living here and being able to participate makes for a special day.”
“We are really grateful to all those who have sponsored us”, added Richard.
