This year’s
Sugar Awareness Week, which takes place 20th to 26th January 2020, aims to educate the public on the amount of sugar they consume each day. The national campaign is focusing this year on drinks, asking us to think about how much sugar is in our favourite drinks.
Foundation of Light partner,
Northumbrian Water is supporting the campaign week to promote the benefits of tap water.
Through the company’s Power by Water programme, the Foundation of Light has educated thousands of primary school children on the importance of drinking water to keep them healthy and hydrated.
It is vital we teach children the importance of drinking water, staying hydrated and the danger of consuming too much sugar.
Danielle Chapman, Foundation of Light’s Primary Stars Coordinator
Danielle added “The Powered by Water programme is a fantastic way to educate children on how to stay topped up with water throughout the day and most importantly that water keeps your brain healthy, helps you think clearly, improves your mood and prevents you from getting tired. These are really important messages for young children, as it will help them to form healthy habits.”
Northumbrian Water has also installed two water refill stations at the charity’s home, the Beacon of Light. As part of the Refill programme, people can fill up their refillable bottles with tap water, free of charge, in order to reduce plastic waste and encourage people to live healthier lives.
