PUPILS FLYING HIGH WITH CHRISTMAS CAROLS
Pupils have been helping Newcastle Airport passengers get into the festive spirit before they jet off for the Christmas and New Year break. Cheering travellers on were pupils from West Rainton Primary School in Houghton-le-Spring, St Mark’s RC Primary from Newbiggin Hall and St. Patrick’s Primary in Stockton. The opportunity for the three schools to sing at the airport arose from Foundation of Light, Newcastle United Foundation and Middlesbrough FC Foundation all being Newcastle Airport’s adopted charity for the year. In the summer, Newcastle Airport announced a three-way partnership with the foundations who will all join for the first time to raise funds as they collectively work together to engage both staff and customers at the airport.
I would like to thank Newcastle Airport for allowing us to come here and sing Christmas carols in the terminal. I know all three schools have had a great time and people passing have been generous with their donations so I would like to thank those too.
Jemma Garrett, Foundation of Light Events Manager
Situated in the departure and arrival areas at the airport are charity collection globes where any currency can be donated and will be split between the three charities. As well as its fundraising achievements, Newcastle was named Airport of the Year, handled its highest number of passengers in a decade and was fifth in a list of the world’s happiest airports.
