Supporters attending Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light Matchday are being encouraged to make a difference by donating Easter eggs to families across the North East – with long-standing partner Stagecoach North East once again lending their support.
Taking place when Sunderland host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday 14 March, the special matchday will celebrate the Foundation’s work and shine a light on the life-changing work delivered across the region.
As part of the day, Stagecoach will have a dedicated bus stationed at the Beacon of Light Fan Zone, where supporters can drop off Easter egg donations before kick-off.
All donations will be distributed to children, young people and families supported by the Foundation of Light, helping to bring a small but meaningful moment of joy during the Easter period.
Stagecoach has been a valued partner of the Foundation for a number of years, supporting initiatives that remove barriers for young people and help connect communities across Sunderland and South Tyneside.
From backing holiday courses to supporting education and employability programmes, the partnership has continued to grow, with a shared commitment to creating opportunities and brighter futures.
How to get involved
Fans heading to the game can donate by bringing along an Easter egg and dropping it off at the Stagecoach bus in the Beacon of Light Fan Zone, which will be open from 11:30am.
Every donation will go directly to families who need it most, ensuring the impact of the day extends far beyond the final whistle.
Steve Walker, Managing Director of Stagecoach North East, said: “The Stadium of Light is right on our doorstep; our regional head office is just a goal kick away from the ground. Our services are at the heartbeat of life in Sunderland, just like the football club. Our customers are Sunderland supporters and vice versa.
“We’re incredibly proud of our partnership with the Foundation of Light and the life-changing work they do in our communities.
“This campaign is a bit of fun, but it will make a real difference. Sadly, not every child on Wearside will receive a chocolate egg this Easter, but if we can fill a bus full of eggs and help put a smile on a child’s face, that’s something worthwhile.”
Jamie Wright, Chief Operating Officer added: “Foundation of Light Matchday is all about bringing people together and showing the power of football to do good. We’re incredibly grateful to Stagecoach for their continued support and for helping us make a difference to families across our communities this Easter.”
The Easter Egg campaign highlights Stagecoach’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and working in partnership with organisations that deliver positive, lasting impact across the North East.
